MakeUp in Paris to Highlight Rich Palette of Suppliers and Sessions

The fourth edition of Paris's trendy cosmetics-centric show will feature 25% more exhibitors than last year and more than a dozen conferences over two days.

The fourth edition of Paris’s trendy cosmetics-centric show will feature 25% more exhibitors than last year and more than a dozen conferences over two days.

Visitors to this year’s edition of MakeUp in Paris—at the Carrousel du Louvre on June 20-21—will have the opportunity to split their time between meeting with a record 85 exhibitors on a sold-out show floor, and attending a series of 15 conferences and roundtables focusing on topics of interest to members of the global and European makeup industry.

Exhibitors will span 13 countries, with Japan, Spain and Poland represented for the first time at the show. More than 2,500 attendees are expected.

This year, MakeUp in Paris will introduce a new area to the show floor: MakeUPigments will be dedicated to ingredients suppliers, and will include an exhibition and workshops. Participants include BASF, Laserson and Merck.

Following is a brief look at some of this year’s specialized conferences:

Thursday, June 20

10:15am to 11am: Makeup and Skin Care
This conference will analyze the importance of links between skin care and makeup and their effect on product design and marketing. Speakers will include: Dominique Bouvier chairman of the board Strand Cosmetics Europe; Stéphanie du Chaxel, international marketing and communications director at Sothy’s, Pierre Miasnik, CEO of Fiabila; Max Herlant, makeup advisor for Yves Rocher, Ghislaine Suquet, product manager Kanebo Cosmetics.

11:15am to 12:00pm: The Impact of Smell in Makeup
Panelists will aim to measure the impact of smell and how it is taken into consideration by perfumers, manufacturers of makeup products and brands in their marketing strategy. Speakers include: Isabelle Ferrand, director of Cinquieme Sens; Hélène Lefur independent professional makeup artist; Charles-Emmanuel Gounod, founder of Beautyworld Connexions; Anne Abriat, director of The Smell and Taste Lab.

12:00pm to 12:30pm: MakeUParade
Everyone loves a parade, and for the first time at MakeUp in Paris, students of makeup schools and their models will participate twice a day in the show’s MakeUParade, performing in the aisles and staging products from the exhibitors.

12:30pm to 1:15pm: Colors & Beauty: Past, Present and Future
Olivier Guillemin, designer & creative director of o,o and president of the Comité Français de la Couleur, will speak about the importance of looking back on beauty’s history in order to see where it’s headingand what inspirations are driving it. He’ll offer a projection of beauty’s colors and themes that are trending for 2014 and beyond.

1:30pm to 2:15pm: Foundation, a Concentrate of Innovations
A group of formulation and packaging suppliers will look at innovations in foundation makeup—from texture and shades to applicator systems. Speakers include: Dany Sanz, artistic director of Makeup For Ever; Mario de Luigi, CEO of B.Kolormakeup & Skincare; Brian Fox, founder and CEO Genealogy; Valérie Jacob, international marketing director of the perfume & cosmetics division of the SGD Group; Laurent Frydlender, director of Quadpack-Yonwoo France.

3:00pm to 3:30pm: MakeUParade

3:30pm to 4:15pm: The Color Red
Color management consultant Philippe Fagot will present two conferences at MakeUp in Paris, focusing on concepts of color—one on red, and one on blue.

He will offer an analysis of data collected from visitors to the show who were asked about the contemporary concepts in connection with each of the primary hues.

4:30pm to 5:15pm: Summer 2014 Beauty Trends: From Sociological Decryption to Creative Avenues
Presented by trends agency Carlin International

Friday June 21

9:15am to 10:00am: Mascara: A Global Product
Speakers include: Enrica Ancorotti, Ancorotti Cosmetics; Sarah Perreard, product manager, DuPont Filaments; Geka Brush Company.

10:15am to 11:15am: Korea: A Champion in Makeup Innovation
Speakers include: Florence Bernardin, director of information and inspiration; JK Hwang, president of FS Korea; Sang Yong Woo, director general Cosmecca; Damien Dufresne and Lee Eunim, Amore Pacific; Kim Eun- Hee, Hwa Sung Cosmetics.

12:00pm to 12:30pm: MakeUParade

12:30pm to 1:15pm: Makeup and the Strategies of Luxury Brands
Caroline Moulin, founder of NaO design trends is the speaker.

1:30pm to 2:15pm: Sales Target: What Training is Necessary for Sales Consultants?
Speakers: Hélène Lefur, creation, development, training in luxury, makeup and Cosmetics; and Mitra Ty, head of the beauty/lingerie department at the Galeries Lafayette Lyon Part Dieu.

2:30pm to 3:30pm: The Color Blue
Philippe Fagot presents his analysis on the color blue.

3:30pm to 4:00pm: MakeUParade
